Our client on the Wirral had recently moved into a new-build home in Thurstaston.
While the property was fresh and modern, the garden was a blank canvas — functional, but uninspiring.
She wanted a low-maintenance sanctuary that felt truly hers: a calm, green space with soft, natural materials, flashes of seasonal colour, and plenty of room for entertaining close friends.
We shaped the space with a large, curved paved area using natural Indian stone — this formed a central zone that allows the homeowner and her guests to follow the sun throughout the day. The curve softened the geometry of the plot and helped guide the eye through the garden.
To add structure and height, we introduced raised oak sleeper planters filled with low-maintenance planting and pops of colour. A sculptural acer became a striking focal point, anchoring the design. Pleached trees screened neighbouring windows and a beautiful old olive tree was spotlighted at night, adding drama and calmness in equal measure.
Along the side return, we designed a discreet covered area that doubles as a practical bike and garden storage solution — seamlessly integrated without compromising the garden’s aesthetic.
Ambient lighting in the form of, bollard path lights, and down wall lighting ensures the garden is just as inviting after dark. A compact outdoor kitchen and BBQ area completes the space — perfect for relaxed evenings with friends.
The result is a welcoming garden — a peaceful retreat for daily life and the perfect setting for relaxed weekends with friends.
